<idAbs>This data set contains all ASRs (Antenna Structure Registrations) filed with the FCC. An antenna structure must be registered if the antenna structure is taller than 200 feet above ground level or may interfere with the flight path of a nearby airport. MnGeo created this dataset in order to provide the data in a GIS-ready format, and to demonstrate the steps required to convert data on the FCC download site.</idAbs>
<idPurp>With these datasets, users are able to determine the locations and limited technical details of existing towers the FCC licenses (i.e. Cellular, Paging, Microwave, AM, FM, etc.). This information can be extremely helpful in conducting analysis such as: current service deployment, need/feasibility determinations of new services, co-location of antenna structures, inventorying of structures, network planning, etc.</idPurp>

Processing Steps - Minnesota Geospatial Information Office:
The Antenna Structure Registration file for weekly registrations within the state of Minnesota was acquired from the Federal Communications Commisson's Daily &amp; Weekly Transaction Files. These files can be found here: https://www.fcc.gov/uls/transactions/daily-weekly#weekly-files. Alternatively, the registrations can be found using the Antenna Structure Registration Search. The ASR Search can be found here: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/AsrSearch/asrRegistrationSearch.jsp. The data is downloaded as a .txt file seperated by pipes (|).
In Microsoft Excel, this text file was opened and formatted. The "CO" (coordinate) table was extracted and converted to .csv format. The reference for the field names was acquired from the FCC's Database Field Definitions file: https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/data/public-access-files-database-downloads
Using ArcGIS Pro, this file was then converted into a table. Two new fields were created by aggregating the LatDeg, LatMin, LatSec, LatDir, LonDeg, LonMin, LonSec, and LonDir fields. The Convert Coordinate Notation tool was then used to convert the Degree Minute Seconds coordinates into Decimal Degrees, project the data into UTM Zone 15 coordinates, and create a feature class of the data points. The resulting feature class was joined with the "RA" table included in the original download file and any duplicate or extraneous fields were removed. Fields were renamed as necessary after the feature class was created.</stepDesc>
