<idAbs>Drinking water supply management area (DWSMA) is the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) approved surface and subsurface area surrounding a public water supply well that completely contains the scientifically calculated <a href="metadata.html">wellhead
protection area </a> and is managed by the entity identified in a wellhead protection plan. The boundaries of the drinking water supply management area are delineated by identifiable physical features, landmarks or political and administrative boundaries.</idAbs>

<overview>
<eaover>In general a DWSMA represents the management area for one public water supplier, however in dense populations, individual DWSMAs can extend into another public water suppliers DWSMA which can cause ambiguity in how to manage the area. In order to resolve this, MDH began creating single wellhead plans for multiple public water suppliers who were in close proximity to each other. The West Metro was first wellhead plan created this way and is included in this data set. It was approved in 2025 and consists of 8 public water suppliers with a group pwsid of 2000000. The individual public water suppliers that are part of this DWSMA are as follows: Hopkins (pwsid:1270016)
Saint Louis Park (pwsid: 1270050)
Eden Prairie (pwsid:1270010)
Bloomington (pwsid: 1270001)
Chanhassan (pwsid:1100001)
Edina (pwsid:1270011)
Minnetonka (pwsid:1270031)
Richfield (pwsid: 1270045)
